PWA audio guide for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum – a modern application available to everyone
Digital solutions are increasingly supporting cultural institutions in creating modern and accessible experiences for visitors. One such solution is an audio guide in the form of a PWA (Progressive Web App), which provides convenient access to content without the need to install a mobile application.
This solution was developed for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum in Warsaw in cooperation with a content partner – Framica Polska. The project combined high-quality audio content with modern, efficient, and accessible technology.
Division of roles in the PWA audio guide project
The project was based on a clear division of responsibilities, which allowed for efficient implementation and a high-quality final solution.
Framica Polska was responsible for:
- preparing and producing audio recordings for the audio guide,
- developing content,
- direct contact and coordination of work with the client – the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum.
Our company carried out the full range of technological work, including:
- solution architecture design,
- user interface design,
- creation of a PWA application,
- implementation of the application in a production environment,
- provision of hosting and stable system maintenance.
This model of cooperation allowed each party to focus on their key areas of expertise.
How was the PWA application for the museum created?
The application development process began with an analysis of the needs of audio guide users and the specifics of visiting a museum. It was crucial to design a solution that would be easy to use, fast, and accessible on various mobile devices.
The application was developed using Progressive Web App technology, which allowed for:
- launching the audio guide directly in the browser,
- operation on Android and iOS systems,
- the ability to add the application to the smartphone's home screen,
- fast loading and high performance.
The whole thing was embedded in our hosting infrastructure, ensuring data security and application continuity.
Accessibility and WCAG standards – a key element of the project
The project placed great emphasis on digital accessibility and compliance with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). The application was designed to be used by the widest possible range of users, including people with various disabilities.
The solutions used include, among others:
- clear content structure and logical navigation,
- appropriate color contrast and legible typography,
- the ability to use the application with assistive technologies,
- interface design in accordance with mobile accessibility principles.
As a result, the PWA audio guide not only meets functional requirements, but also accessibility standards relevant to public and cultural institutions.
Why is PWA a good solution for a museum audio guide?
The choice of PWA technology brings numerous benefits for both users and institutions:
- no need to install an app from the store,
- easy access via QR code or link,
- one app for all mobile devices,
- lower maintenance and development costs,
- quick content updates without user involvement,
- experience similar to a classic mobile app.
This makes the PWA app perfect for use as a modern museum audio guide.
The result of the collaboration and project summary
The result of the cooperation between our company and Framica Polska is a modern, accessible, and stable audio guide in the form of a PWA application for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum in Warsaw. The combination of high-quality audio recordings, well-thought-out technological architecture, and attention to WCAG standards has allowed us to create a solution that truly enhances the visitor experience.
This project shows that PWA applications for museums and cultural institutions can be modern, functional, and accessible to all users at the same time.
